Decisive December

Greetings!

I hope this finds everyone warm, happy, and reading!  We're still having fairly livable weather, with only a few days of snow so far. Although it proclaims so much beauty, I'm dreaming of beaches.

I had the privilege of reading my work at "Four Minutes of Fame" in Wenatchee WA. organized by the "Write on the River" organization. It was a beautiful, fun venue, with many talented people. There was such a wide variety of readings, from memoirs, fiction, screenplays, and poetry. Truly a lovely evening.

I had the wonderful opportunity to watch a dear friend's art come to life. We attended a production she had a lead part in called "The Pajama Game" Shaina Longstreet was smashing! I love to see people express themselves in the arts, doing something they love.

Time is running out so if you're still shopping for gifts, why not give the gift of reading. "Lest We Forget Life's Passion" would be perfect.  I just received another very sweet review from one of my UK readers that you can read here:

Beautiful poems, beautiful book.
By Anthony Novak on December 18, 2014
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I live in England and, sadly, this beautiful book of poems is not available here. After waiting for months in case it appeared in UK (I don't like Kindle versions) I ordered it from Amazon.com and it arrived today, just in time for Christmas. So all you UK poetry enthusiasts, go on, order it from US, it's worth the wait. The poems are brilliant and the book (I got the paperback version) is beautifully printed. Highly recommended, you will come back to it again and again.

Now, back to my corner for continued editing, editing, editing.

Warmest thoughts to you all, and I will leave you with a poem..

United - Triolet

Be the light that shines through others.
Love please give to all your brothers.
Positive vibes float all around.
Be the light that shines through others.
Soften your heart and understand.
Expand yourself and take a hand.
Be the light that shines through others.
Love please give to all your brothers.

Nostalgic November

Dreaming of warmer weather as I type this......

Fall is officially over for us here in Eastern WA.  With temps in the low teens, and forecast for snow next week. I do believe it's time to pack the swimsuit away, and winterize our surroundings!

November has warmed my heart several times with very sweet emails from readers, which keeps me going. It's all possible through you, so thank you.

In wandering through my favorite places (book stores) I have had another reason for warmth in this cold weather. Seeing my book on shelves!

November also brings to writers a chance to write a novel in one month. November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)  On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. Although I do not write novels, each year I strive to reach the 50K goal.

Learn more about NaNoWriMo . You could be the next New York Times Best Selling Author!

Exciting news! I have been invited to read my work at an event called "Four Minutes of Fame", sponsored by an organization called. "Write on the River" So it appears I will be famous for a few minutes anyway, ha!  This event is open to the public, and is being held November 20th, 2014 7:00-9:00 pm at the Upper Eastside Coffee Company, located at 1610 Grant Rd East Wenatchee WA. I look forward to meeting you if you are able to attend.

I am happy to announce my next book is in manuscript form, and ready for the first round of editing. Progress! The title is still a secret :)

Enjoy this poem from my next book. Keep warm!!

Heat singed
my essence
from his desire
floating towards me.

Super September & Opaque October

Hi Everyone!
Well it appears I missed September altogether. Ha! The blog was lonely, so I will allow September to cuddle up with October, and mesh them together.

September was a fun and busy month. Our weather was still spectacular, allowing us a couple more days of boating and sunshine, and several more motorcycle rides.

We rode to the annual "Oyster Run" in Anacortes WA. This is the largest motorcycle run in the Pacific Northwest.

These 3 crazies are known as the "Triplets" My two great friends, (from left to right) Joy, Craig, and of course me.

Just a glimpse of a couple blocks of bikes at the Oyster Run. Many more blocks in either direction, FUN!

Oh, and speaking of fun.... check this out. The Seattle Cossacks. Do not try this at home.

It was necessary to finish this trip off with a little wine tasting in Winthrop WA

Yes, that's what wine will do to you :)

October, well what can I say about October. Blah! Fall is here. However it does produce beautiful colors. I'm not a fan of the cold therefore, I may need relocate for the winter (dreaming). Although in all seriousness, it will be good for my writing. Staying in with hot steamy cocoa all cozy in my office.

My writing continues on a daily basis. I find the challenge of balancing writing and creating new poems, with putting my next book together.  The latter I need to start focusing on more. Time to pull up my cowgirl boot straps!

My heartfelt thanks go out to all of my readers for your continued support and encouragement. Without you what's the point? :)

I will leave you with this thought and poem from my next book ~

Comfort ~ (Triolet)

"I hear his voice, it speaks to me.
It touches deep, and love I see.
His warmth surrounds my ever cell.
I hear his voice, it speaks to me.
His touch undoes all my worries.
In his chest, my face I bury.
I hear his voice it speaks to me.
It touches deep, and love I see."

Forever Yours - A Poem by Dustin Matthews

Please enjoy this lovely poem submitted by Dustin Matthews. He resides in NYC where he has the privilege of meandering around Central Park in all its glory and romance.

FOREVER YOURS

I stare at you from a distance.
My heart keeps you close in mind.
No matter how far away you appear,
you're always right here in my soul.
So next time you see me from afar,
know that I'm with YOU in your heart.
That's the way WE are,
when soul mates are apart.

New Poem "Complete" (Triolet- French form of poetry)

My love for him deepens each day
He pieces me back together
His heart in me is here to stay
My love for him deepens each day
He makes me free to be myself
I feel whole within his embrace
My love for him deepens each day
He pieces me back together

Double Nickels

Double nickels wise and true.
Complications, that make me blue.
Integrity tested throughout my soul.
It appears as though I’ve lost my goal.
Ripples of passion against my heart.
Am I headed for a brand new start?
I gaze around at all I see.
I wonder what is wrong with me.
The toll it takes is wearing me down.
I speak the words, do you hear my sound?
Thunder in his soul, as he looks at me,
rattles my cage, and then sets me free.

M.W.P. - A poem dedicated to my brother who lost his fight with heroin at age 46.

Today I think of you,
so many years have past.
The picture of your face,
in my mind will always last.
Such wasted years we had,
miles apart were we.
The house was filled with two,
oh I wish it had been three.
Your pain was not your own,
I shared it every day.
I’d wish that you were clean,
I hoped, I begged, and prayed.
Then one day you were gone.
The call came in the night.
I laid in bed and cried,
till the darkness turned to light.
Each year on this day,
you’re heavy on my heart.
But one day soon I know,
you’ll have a brand new start.

I love you Mickey

"Willow Dreams" by Timothious Clayton Smith

I am pleased to introduce Timthious Clayton Smith, a talented writer, and poet. He has submitted a lovely poem, I would like to showcase this month. You can read more of his work at Poems by Timothious

Timothious Clayton Smith was born in North Kansas City, Missouri. Timothious and his brothers were often read to by their mother. And although their mother tried to read the normal children's books, they craved more, resulting in being read to from whatever she was currently reading. This meant bedtime stories where normally something from Edgar Allen Poe or the like.

Willow Dreams
By Timothious

Oaken embers glow in the hearth
The smell of beechnut flavored beer
Dogwoods flower and perfume the earth
And what do Willows dream, dear?

They dream to be women
To have their beauty and grace
To lure to taunt and lures of men
But most of all to have your face.

They dream of your fair skin
Of drinking deep the pools of your eyes
Of the looks you bring from men
Even your sorrows, your tears and cries

They dream of being like you
They wish for your smile
And even your beauty true
Your nose, your lips and to laugh just awhile

They dream of your hair
How they wish it could be
They would grow it long with care
So for the beauty of all to see

But they know it cannot be
So, they wait by the stream
And let their dreams flow to the sea
But of only you do they dream

“Animated August”

Hello my friends!

The flurry of August has jumped in with two feet, and rushed right past me.

This was a busy time for our household. Filled with friends, family, tiny “I love you grandma” voices, food, wine, laughter, and joy.

Since August 1st we’ve had the privilege of overnight guests every weekend. We've enjoyed the activities of the Omak Stampede, and World Famous Suicide Race.

In addition to all that excitement we experienced two haboobs! Now that was a first!

The rest of the month continued in this pattern.

My writing is pushing forward. My second book is taking on a life of it’s own. Slowly morphing into a theme of emotions, which for me has been very revealing. With each realization comes more excitement.

Stay tuned, and keep cool in this heat, and unpredictable summer weather…. and most importantly,  never let the passion die.

I'm Home by Carl Joseph Roberts

I’m pleased to introduce Carl Joseph Roberts. He has submitted a lovely poem, I would like to showcase this month.

Born, and raised just outside of Columbus, Ohio, he comes from a long family line of Police Officers, and currently is continuing on in that tradition. He also invests in homes, rehabs and re-sells them.  He has one child, his greatest accomplishment in life, who is now grown, and attending college. His grandfather introduced him to poetry, and it is now one of his biggest passions. Please support this very talented poet. You can see other works of his at http://hellopoetry.com/carl-joseph-roberts/

I’m Home

I got my own place today
And I did this without you
Turned the key and unlocked the door
And saw an empty room

The empty room reminded me
That although you won't be there
I'll have the chance to fill the room
With memories I'll hold dear

I can paint the walls in colors
Bright and pleasing to my eyes
Cover up past pain and hurt
Now knowing I'll survive

I can look out each new window
Or look in and see the view
And never see a memory
Of the times I spent with you

I will hang my pictures on the walls
And let your memory fade from view
Now rearrange my future
And allow for something new

This new place I have I will call home
Where new memories will be made
And it all began when I turned that key
As I walked in today

I'm Home

July Joys ~

July Joys ~

Happy steamy, hot July to you!

Here in Eastern WA we are dealing with triple digit temps, and smoke filled air due to many wildfires.
On a personal note, my ankle is healing well. I’m now down to a small ankle support type contraption. I’ve been told I’m not the best patient in the world in terms of compliance.  Who would have known that it was a no no to start riding the Harley four days after my fracture, in addition to boating, and jet skiing…. Hmmm well OK then… good thing I survived! :)

On the writing scene, things are moving along. Magnificent creations are flowing from my psyche, filling pages upon pages of words, and thoughts, to bring out the emotions you so long to discover. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around a theme, and presentation for the whole manuscript. In time, it will reveal itself to me, and that my friends is when the fun will begin.

Have a fun filled and safe July!

A Teaser From My Next Book. "Cut Both Ways" - A Poem ~

Cut Both Ways

Double sided love is the thrill he instills in my soul.
Double sided love is the stab in my chest when I've disappointed him.
Double sided love is the yearning I feel in my gut when he looks at me.
Double sided love is the hurt deep in my bones when he misunderstands my words.
Double sided love is the warmth of his body against mine making us one.
Double sided love is the sadness I have in my heart because I am confused.
Double sided love is the smile he gives me that shines through my eyes.
Double sided love is the hate I feel for myself when I betray him.
Double sided love is the breath that is sucked from my lungs as passion soars through my body at the mere hint of his cologne.
Double sided love is the realization that he is mine, and yet he is not.
Double sided love is the flutters inside my being when I feel his proximity.
Double sided love is the emptiness when he leaves.
Double sided love is the realization that ours is the love of a lifetime.
Double sided love is our near death, because of our love.

"Vow" - A poem

The note, the beat,
rising passion
within us.
The emotion, the want,
the need,
as we throw away all fuss.
The rhythm pulsing
between our souls,
pulling our hearts
together.
The look, the love,
in our eyes
as we realize,
it's forever.

Matters of May

Hello everyone, I hope you’re enjoying “Lest We Forget Life’s Passion”.  I’m having a splendid time meeting new readers, and getting to know you all.

I attended a wonderful writers conference last weekend. “Write on the River” in beautiful Wenatchee Washington. It was nice to meet other writers, poets, and gain valuable feedback, and encouragement.

Of course I made a grand entrance. I tripped and fell as I was walking into my first workshop and broke my ankle. I was not about to go home, so a very sweet person, brought me a bag of ice.  I elevated, iced, and limped around for the next 6 hours. Then proceeded to drive myself 2 hours home, before going to the ER to be evaluated. Yep, broken. I am now the not so proud owner of one very unfashionable black boot. :/  It certainly is not going to match my other riding boot while on the Harley, but I will make do.

Current projects:

I’ve been working with a group from the Methow valley in hopes of being a part of a monthly poetry reading event. As that unfolds I will keep you posted.

The North Central Regional Library has for quite some time been trying to arrange for a weekly poetry/book reading event at the local Omak library. They’ve asked if I would be willing to be a part of that as well. Stay tuned.

I’m well into working on my second book as far as content, but keep coming up with various ideas as to how to showcase it. Work in progress!

Spring has sprung here in Eastern Washington. The vast array of blossoms, and greenery makes for a vivid mind collection of words, feelings, and ideas for future poems.

Wishing you all a beautiful, fun filled spring. Until next time, keep smiling, it looks good on you.

Sincerely,

P.S. Rowland
